What is tree removal?
Tree removal is the complete, controlled taking-down of a tree, from the crown to the base of the trunk. Depending on the space around it, the tree is either felled in one direction into a clear drop zone, or dismantled in sections from the top down using ropes and climbing gear. Once it's down, the timber and brash are cut and cleared, and the stump is left low and tidy.

How Tree Removal Is Carried Out
No two removals are the same. The method depends on the size and condition of the tree and, most of all, on what is around it.
Working with Roberts Roots
Todd Roberts, Founder, runs every job himself. On larger jobs he brings in a trusted team of close friends, each self-employed with their own public liability insurance. Before any cutting starts, trees are checked for Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas.
Straight felling
Where there is a clear, open drop zone at least as long as the tree is tall, it can be felled in one piece. A directional notch (the 'gob') and a back cut control which way it falls. This is the quickest method and suits open gardens, fields and larger commercial sites.
Sectional dismantling
In most back gardens there simply isn't room to drop a whole tree. Instead, the tree is climbed and taken down from the top in manageable sections. Where branches overhang roofs, greenhouses or fences, pieces are tied off and lowered on ropes so nothing is dropped where it could cause damage.
Dead and hazardous trees
Dead trees and trees with decay, splits or storm damage need extra care: the wood can be brittle and behave unpredictably under the saw. Todd assesses the condition first and adapts the method, sometimes removing the most dangerous parts before anything else.
Domestic vs commercial removal
Domestic jobs are usually about protecting the house, garden and neighbours. Commercial work, for schools, pre-schools, businesses and landlords, often adds access restrictions, public safety and working around opening hours. Both get the same checks and the same standard of clear-up.
What happens to the wood
Brash and timber are cleared from site as part of the job. If you'd like to keep the logs for a stove or fire, just say so when you book.

Before, During and After Your Tree Removal Job
Before the visit
When you get in touch, a short description of the job and a couple of photos go a long way. Tell Todd roughly where the tree or hedge is, how big it is, and how easy it is to get to, through a side gate, over a wall, or from the front of the property. Mention anything nearby that needs protecting, such as a greenhouse, conservatory, pond, overhead cables or a neighbour's fence. If you already know or suspect the tree is protected, say so, but either way Todd will check for a Tree Preservation Order or conservation area before any work is agreed.
On the day
Todd arrives when he says he will, something customers mention again and again in reviews. The work area is set up first, with anything fragile protected and people and pets kept clear of where cutting is happening. The tree removal work is then carried out exactly as described in your quote. If anything unexpected turns up once work begins, such as hidden decay, Todd will talk it through with you before going any further; nothing is added without your say-so.
After the work
Brash, clippings and timber are cleared away and the area is raked and left tidy, so you're not spending your weekend clearing up. If you'd like to keep logs from the job, just ask when you book. Todd will also give you straightforward advice on aftercare and on when the tree or hedge is likely to need attention again, so you can plan ahead rather than waiting for a problem.
